Roadside rescue
Some car breakdown insurance policies include
membership of a breakdown recovery service – e.g. the
AA or RAC – as part of the package you are offered.
This typically gives you access to roadside assistance if
you break down for any reason (including things like running
out of petrol, punctures and having a flat battery, or even
losing your keys) and the recovery of your vehicle to a nearby
garage or anywhere in the UK.
Breakdown recovery service insurance can be purchased separately
from mechanical breakdown insurance.
It is worth considering if you want access to help if you
get stranded, do not have the mechanical know-how to deal
with a breakdown, or would feel vulnerable in such a situation.
Motoring Abroad
You can also buy breakdown recovery insurance to cover you
for a specific number of days (e.g. 14 or 31) when you travel
abroad. This can be useful if you do not like the idea of
sorting out problems by yourself if your car breaks down overseas.
